Instructions and Safety Guidelines for Palidium Batteries

Palidium batteries are sealed lead-acid batteries designed for minimal maintenance and reliable performance. To ensure safe use and long lifespan, please follow the guidelines below for installation, charging, and maintenance.

1. Safety First

  • Always read the vehicle manual before working on the battery.
  • Add these safety instructions to the vehicle documentation.
  • First Aid in case of acid contact:
    • In the eyes: Rinse immediately with clean water for several minutes and consult a doctor.
    • Ingested: Seek medical attention immediately.
    • On skin or clothing: Neutralize with baking soda or soapy water, then rinse thoroughly with water.

2. Installing and Removing the Battery

  • Only install fully charged batteries (≥ 12.5 V open circuit voltage).
  • Turn off the engine and all electrical components before removal.
  • Always disconnect and connect in this order:
    • Removal: first negative (-), then positive (+).
    • Installation: first positive (+), then negative (-).
  • Clean the battery tray and terminals before installation, and apply acid-free grease to the terminals.
  • Secure the battery using the original mounting hardware.
  • Only remove protective caps when connecting the new battery. Replace them on the old battery to prevent short circuits.
  • Ensure that at least one ventilation opening remains unobstructed during use and transport (to avoid explosion risk).

3. External Charging

  • Protect battery terminals against corrosion with acid-free grease.
  • Check the battery voltage every 4–8 weeks during seasonal storage. Recharge when voltage drops below 12.3 V.
  • Avoid extended trickle charging or overcharging.
  • Normally, Palidium batteries do not require refilling.
  • Use a suitable DC charger and follow its manual.
  • Never charge a frozen or overheated battery (above 45 °C).
  • Connect positive to positive and negative to negative before switching on the charger.
  • Switch off the charger before disconnecting the battery.
  • Interrupt charging if the battery becomes hot or leaks acid.
  • Ensure proper ventilation during charging.

4. Maintenance

  • Keep the battery surface clean and dry.
  • Use a slightly damp or anti-static cloth for cleaning.

5. Jump Starting

  • Only possible if both batteries have the same nominal voltage.
  • Use only approved jumper cables (e.g., ISO 6722).
  • Both batteries should be approximately the same size/capacity.
  • Follow the vehicle manual and the jumper cable instructions carefully.
  • If applicable: check and refill the electrolyte level to “max” before jump starting.
